Singapore Specials Run ‘10

Hey guys!

The latest upcoming event is the Singapore Specials Run ‘10 held on 28 November 2010 (Sunday).

Basically it is a final year project by the Year 3 students from Diploma in Integrated Events and Project Management. It is a charity run for a non-profit society- Action for Singapore Dogs (ASD) with the mission:

To improve the welfare of stray and abandoned dogs in Singapore

It was established in July 2002, and since then, the number of dogs at the rescue centre has significantly increased! However, there is also an increase in expenses.

Hence this event aims to create awareness for ASD where all proceeds will be used for Rescue and Reforming activities and to maintain the Adoption & Rescue Centre which currently houses over 90 strays rescued from the streets.

The event will be at East Coast Park on 28th November 2010, Sunday, for a targeted number of 300 participants.

There will be various roles volunteer roles available to be taken up such as race marshals, time keepers, water stations helpers and logistics helpers(:

Do sign up if you are interested! I believe it is going to be a fruitful event and something different from what you normally volunteer for!

1) The Samsung Human Torch 2010
Basically, this event is to mark the start of the Olympic flame leaving Greece and cheering its journey towards Singapore as well as to officiate Samsung as a sponsor to this event. Samsung would like you to participate in becoming part of the first ever human torch event.

Venue: Merchant Loop across Swisshotel@Clarke Quay.
Date: 23 July 2010
Time: 4pm – 9pm

What will be done:
- A kick-off for the Journey of the Olympic Flame whereby the torch gets passed around and finally into the cauldron
- Armed with fibre-optic torches, 2010 students will form a shape of the torch around dusk, officiating the start
- Participants receive a goodie bag which consists of an exclusive Samsung Human Torch t-shirt, exclusive event towel/fan, fibre-optic torch, and a unique medal.

2) SP Journey of Youth Olympic Flame
The YOG torch will be coming to SP’s grounds and there will be a huge fanfare leading to the light up of the cauldron at SP Plaza.

Venue: SP (Gate 8 all the way to Auditorium)

Time: 5pm – 9pm

What will be done:
- The Olympic Torch is coming to SP through Gate 8, pass the car park, pass T11, T12 and into the Plaza area outside the Auditorium.
- We need to form a welcome party along the sides of the road.
- Every 4 students will be given a 1metre space along both sides of the road. So please register in multiples of 4.
- You may do anything you wish to jazz up the event. Be creative ! (For example, you can hold a banner that says "xxx Club welcomes the Olympic Flame to Singapore Poly", or dress up in mascots and dance, or play some musical instrument.)
- The idea is to make the whole event like a carnival.
- The whole route is 600metres long, and we need 2,400 students to be part of the welcome party.
- Once the Olympic Torch passes you, you then join the back of the convoy and follow them to the Plaza area.
- Participants receive a goodie bag which consists of a t-shirt, poncho, food vouchers etc.

Last year, our club helped out in this project and it was very meaningful and fun!

It is one of the seven special projects undertaken by NUS Students’ Community Service Club (CSC).
